Account Representative

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks an Account Representative to join our Survivor Services unit. This customer service work is focused on providing support to employers, members and benefit recipients related to life insurance and survivor benefits.  An employee in this classification must apply knowledge of the survivor services related statutes and regulations to research, analyze, and provide moderately complex information to a diverse audience.  Basic accounting functions related to accurate billing and payment of premiums are also core components of this work. This includes responsibility to determine member status, group life insurance eligibility, and the variety of benefits available.

Minimum qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma plus Four (4) years of related responsible experience that demonstrates solid customer service skills:  good listening and respectful communications; consistency in reviewing and assuring the accuracy of financial and written information prior to distribution; and fidelity to basic accounting principles.  
  • Previous work history must include practical experience with basic computer applications.  

Preferred qualification:  

  • Associate degree in business, finance, customer service or other related field.

Salary: Begins at $43,763 (if annualize) with excellent benefits.

Disability Specialist

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Disability Specialist to join our Disability Services department. MainePERS is a dynamic organization that manages a variety of employee benefits for Maine’s public sector workers. Disability Specialists are primarily responsible for collecting medical evidence from healthcare providers and reviewing employment information collected through applicants/recipients and employers. In consultation with MainePERS’ Medical Review Service Provider, Specialists issue decisions related to eligibility criteria. Successful applicants will possess strong analytical and communication skills. 

Some of the essential functions of this position include: 

  • Requests, authorizes, and reviews medical evidence from healthcare providers, hospitals, applicants/recipients, and other sources, in order to evaluate and determine initial or continuing eligibility for disability benefits in compliance with MainePERS statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Reviews and assesses medical and employment information in order to determine applicant’s ability to perform the essential functions of their employment position or recipient’s ability to perform “substantially gainful activity.”
  • Assesses feasibility and provision of reasonable accommodations to allow individuals to perform the essential functions of their employment positions.
  • Communicates frequently by telephone and in writing with members and others.
  • Analyzes reports completed by the MainePERS Medical Review Service Provider on individual files to determine the effect of functional limitations on the essential functions of a specific job.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience -OR-  associate’s degree in a relevant field and five years of complex administrative or technical experience. -OR- or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • At least one (1) year of experience must be in the application of complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred qualifications:  

  • Experience which demonstrates interviewing and other skills necessary to evaluate medical evidence and related data to make complex determinations of eligibility for benefits or services. 
  • Experience relating to disability determination or vocational rehabilitation.

Information Technology Business Analyst

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks an Information Technology Business Analyst to join our IT department. This position performs analysis and documentation of business process and system interactions. The Business Analyst will perform requirement definition and documentation, facilitate User acceptance testing and manage deployment coordination. This position works closely with our Development and Line of Business teams.  This position will act as facilitator for our internal project teams and vendors to ensure that all MainePERS goals, deadlines and objectives are successfully met. Work is performed under limited supervision. This position is anticipated to be a 4-year limited duration position.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training may be considered.
  • Excellent customer interface, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of software development life cycles as well as project development cycles.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to write technical specifications and requirements clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a high paced team environment.
  • Experience writing and executing test plans with attention to details and quality.
  • Ability to self-organize and assist the teams you work with in their organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Agile methodology.
  • 2+ years in a Business Analyst role.
  • Experience writing queries and analyzing data is helpful.

Information Technology Project Manager

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks an Information Technology Project Manager to join our IT department. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing multiple ongoing and one-time IT projects of varying scope and subject matter. This position leads project teams, coordinates internal and external resources, manages project timelines, and serves as a liaison between the business and technical aspects of assigned projects. This position also supports the success of projects by ensuring the projects are completed on time and meet quality, budget, collaboration and other applicable expectations. 

This position is anticipated to be a 4-year limited duration position. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Information Science-related field.
  • At least three years of related experience required.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Must be proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level

Retirement Services Specialist

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Specialist for each discipline (3) to join our Retirement Services team. This position serves the members by supporting the processing and accuracy of work focused on benefit-related tasks.  In addition to the functions and competencies associated with the Pension Associate III classification, this position also includes the general oversight of the day-to-day work of the business unit and functions as a resource and subject matter expert for the associates and clerks. This includes running reports and queries for payroll deadline and working to resolve member issues. This position reports to the Business Unit Leader, works in close collaboration with them, and is expected to contribute to efforts to build and maintain a positive culture in the unit. The Specialist supervises the day-to-day work of the assigned unit; may lead and/or work closely in an advisory capacity with other staff members or teams within the Division.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of responsible administrative experience.

OR

  • 8 years of progressively responsible administrative experience which includes:
    • Two (2) years of work experience as a Pension Associate II or higher in the Retirement Services Unit of the Member Services Division of MainePERS.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite
  • Must be proficient in Excel at the Beginner level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience which demonstrates interviewing, interpersonal, data gathering, and analytical skills necessary to form the basis for making complex eligibility determinations, claims resolutions and customer service requests; experience making group presentations.

Senior Accounting Analyst

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Senior Accounting Analyst to join the Accounting and Finance team. The Senior Accounting Analyst performs essential accounting functions for the organization including processing payroll, creating and maintaining budgets, maintaining subsidiary accounts, preparing and posting journal entries, account reconciliation and analysis, preparing financial statements and reports, and maintaining backup documentation.

This position may provide back-up for designated functions of both the Assistant Director of Accounting and Finance and the Chief Financial Officer. Responsibilities for this position include providing training to other members of the accounting staff, responding to accounting related inquiries from members of management and others, and providing backup for other accounting positions as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business.
  • 5+ years solid accounting experience utilizing automated accounting system.
  • Experience with processing payroll and/or budgeting.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of accounting standards and procedures, laws, rules and regulations.
  • Experience using Great Plains or Microsoft Dynamics GP software.

Survivor Services Account Associate

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks an Account Representative to join our Survivor Services team. Under the direction of the Business Leader, this position assists in coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Survivor Services business unit. This is a hands-on position and will assist in carrying out the day-to-day work in a timely and efficient manner. The Account Associate oversees the accuracy and timeliness of data; reviews and analyzes information; responds to inquiries from members and employers; collaborates with other business units to meet System objectives; and coaches and trains other staff as needed to ensure MainePERS standards of excellence in service delivery are met. Assigned tasks are performed in order to generate financial, accounting, actuarial, employer, member and retiree benefits information interacting with employers, members, retirees and beneficiaries. Work is performed under the direction of the Survivor Services Business Leader and Supplemental Benefits Division Manager.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Business or Accounting, with 2 or more years with progressively responsible administrative experience

    OR
  • a six (6) year combination of post-secondary education, training and or progressively responsible administrative/technical experience performing complex tasks which demonstrate analytical, financial and data gathering skills.

Salary: Begins at $48,984 if annualized.
