Facilities Manager

Maine Public Employees retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Facilities Manager. This position is responsible for providing services for facility operations and the Safety Program for all MainePERS’ locations. The incumbent works with the Director of Administration on facility projects and overall safety concerns. This role has primary responsibility for establishing and supporting a proactive maintenance strategy and administering and managing all external vendor personnel and contracts.  Applicant must posses good communication, initiative, oversight, and collaborative qualities while interacting with all staff, departments, and outside vendors.

Qualifications:

•     Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience.

•    Knowledge and/ or experience with building and grounds maintenance.

•    Project management experience.

Business Leader

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Business Leader in the Retirement Services unit. This position is the subject matter expert regarding the processes and legal provisions that apply to work completed in this unit. The incumbent is responsible for providing guidance and the primary technical resource relied on by staff and management regarding work that is within the scope of this position.

Applicant must possess strong leadership and initiative abilities, along with excellent communication, technical, and interpersonal skills

Qualifications: Associates degree in a relevant field with at least five (5) years of experience as the subject matter expert; At least 10-years of experience as a subject matter expert; –OR– any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Salary: Begins at $58,781 annualized


Account Associate I

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking an Account Associate I in the Employer Reporting Unit. Work in this position focuses on reviewing payroll data, work report adjustments and payments received from Tier 1 employers.  The work performed by this position lays the foundation for member records and ultimately service credit calculation and is responsible for ensuring that timely and accurate data is received by and from employers.  This position serves as the primary backup for the Employer Reporting Associate for processing membership applications, personnel status change forms and member date update forms.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience that demonstrates excellent customer service, research and analysis, computational, computer skills and the ability to work under limited supervision.
  • OR – Post-secondary degree and two years related work experience.
  • Must be proficient in Excel at the Beginner level.

Salary begins at $37,544 with excellent benefits.

Member Services Representative

This work is focused on assisting members at various stages of their membership.  The work may include receiving enrollment paperwork and ensuring its completeness and accuracy; processing changes; retrieving account information for members and explaining the information to them, both over the telephone and in person. In addition, the position provides operational support by processing member requests including gathering information and verifying completeness prior to forwarding the results into the workflow process. This  position must follow through on a sequence of tasks while dealing with phone interruptions, utilize/maintain an organized file system, accurately enter data and verify the accuracy of own work as well as work of others.  Responsibilities may include determining membership, creditable service, costs for the purchase of creditable service, earnable compensation and service retirement benefits by obtaining and interpreting service records and other relevant documentation.  Other responsibilities may include the dissemination or receipt of information about ancillary benefits.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: 

  • A high school diploma is required plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience in an office environment. 
  • Demonstrated successful customer service experience by phone and/or in person Familiarity with using Windows or web-based computer applications

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associates Degree

Disability Specialist

Primary job duties include: Work in this position primarily focuses the oversight and evaluation of applications for disability retirement within the fiduciary responsibility of the System.  Tasks include the following:  reviewing and analyzing medical reports and employment histories; eliciting relevant information from applicants/recipients and employers in interviews and otherwise; preparing facts and consulting with the Medical Reviewers to interpret the information and identify the functional limitations of the specific conditions; acts as designee to the Chief Executive Officer regarding eligibility and continuing eligibility for disability benefits.  Specific projects and areas of concentration are assigned as needed. 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience–OR-
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field and five (5) years of complex administrative or technical experience.  
  • At least one (1) year of experience must be in the application of complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and writing skills.
  • Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with diverse populations including physically and mentally incapacitated persons.
  • Must be skilled in operating word processing and other office automation equipment and be capable of extended periods of time engaged in computer terminal operations.

Additional Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience which demonstrates interviewing and other skills necessary to evaluate medical reports and related data to make complex determinations of eligibility for benefits or services.
  • Experience relating to disability determination or vocational rehabilitation.

Pension Associate I

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System is seeking to fill five (5) Pension Associate I positions. This is an entry-level position in the Pension Associate Job Series.  Work in this position primarily focuses on benefit-related tasks involving regular plan participants in a single discipline (state, PLD, or teacher).  The work performed by this position generally includes review or verification by experienced employees until proficiency is demonstrated.
