Quality Control Technician

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) is looking for a Quality Control Technician to join the Document Center Team. The Quality Control Technician maintains the member and retiree contact (demographic) information in the line of business database while utilizing various databases and internet research tools. This position is also responsible for preparing and sending letters and reviewing and interpreting reports. This position reports to the Document Center Supervisor.  

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of responsible, self-directed work experience that demonstrates excellent customer service, research and analysis, computational skills, computer skills, and the ability to work under limited supervision.

-OR Post-secondary degree and two years related work experience.

  • Proficient in Excel at the beginner level

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Proficient in Excel at the intermediate level

Document Center Senior Technician

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Document Center Senior Technician to join the Document Center Team. The Senior Technician maintains the quality and integrity of the records management process at Maine Public Employees Retirement System. The incumbent works under the direction of the Document Center Supervisor to oversee the work processes of the Document Center based upon established criteria in order to assure rapid and accurate fulfillment of MainePERS internal customer requests. The incumbent is responsible for directing the unit’s work processes and personnel, for assuring quality standards are met, and for the proper functioning of imaging equipment.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite.
  • Proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level
  • Six (6) years of experience performing complex clerical, or technical work that includes three (3) years of the following in any combination:
    • MainePERS employment
    • Experience working with electronically stored records
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to travel within the state; valid driver’s license and maintenance of a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration or Information Management.
  • Experience using and maintaining an electronic records imaging system.
  • Leadership experience.

Assistant Director, Employer Reporting

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks an Assistant Director of Employer Reporting to join our Employer Reporting Team. The Assistant Director reports to the CFO and provides support in the oversight and administration of the employer reporting business unit and supervises employer reporting staff as assigned. The Assistant Director works with the CFO on the development of policies and practices as they relate to the business unit’s function, oversight and management of more than 600 participating employer accounts, and the professional development of the employer reporting team.  This position requires the application of superior interpersonal skills to understand and motivate employees and colleagues.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with five years of progressive accounting experience

-OR a post-secondary degree and seven years related work experience

-OR any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  • Prior supervisory or team leader experience with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff
  • Proficient in Excel at the Intermediate level
  • Proficient in MS Office suite

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business
  • Payroll processing experience

Salary range (if annualized): $78,044.00 to $87,799.50

Deputy Chief Investment Officer

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Deputy Chief Investment Officer (Deputy CIO) to join our Portland-based investment team. The Deputy CIO reports to the CIO and provides support in the oversight and administration of the investment program and supervises investment staff as assigned. The Deputy CIO has broad responsibilities that include working with the CIO on development of investment policies and strategies, portfolio management, oversight of investment operations, administration, and risk management. Primary responsibilities and duties of this position include the development, oversight, and implementation of investment policies and principles, asset allocation strategies, portfolio construction strategies, and risk management controls. Strong interpersonal skills are required to build and maintain relationships with the general consultant, custodian, investment managers, and other external advisors and consultants.

The investment team, in addition to the CIO and Deputy CIO, includes Managing Directors of Private Equity, Real Estate, Alternative Credit, and Infrastructure and Natural Resources, the Asset Class Head of Risk Diversifiers, a Senior Analyst, and an Operations Senior Analyst.

MainePERS enjoys long tenure in their investment team with the majority of the staff working there almost 10 years.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least seven years of relevant investment experience.
  • Strong financial modeling skills to build models and analyze data from various sources.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills to effectively present ideas, methods, procedures, and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Appreciation for public service and understanding of defined benefit retirement plans.

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree.
  • CFA and/or CAIA.
  • Track record of continuing education.
  • Experience managing institutional assets.
  • Experience sourcing and monitoring external managers.
  • Experience in private market investments and hedge fund investing.
  • Track record of positive performance as compared to benchmarks.
  • Awareness and understanding of ESG considerations in institutional asset management.
