Benefit Summary
Defined Benefit Plan Death Benefits Disability Retirement
"Defined Benefit" Plan

¨

Your can receive a lifetime benefit or

¨

Your contributions earn interest and are fully refundable

¨

As an employer-sponsored benefit, you and your employer contribute
     
Qualification for a Benefit

¨

Earn at least five years of credit and reach retirement age for your plan

¨

Be Normal Retirement Age for your plan with at least one year of service immediately prior to retiring

¨

Meet the service requirement of your plan (e.g. 25 years) and draw a benefit
     
Portability

¨

You take retirement credit with you when moving between employers in the same plan
     
Earn Service Credit for:

¨

Unpaid Leave of Absence

¨

Military Leave of Absence

¨

Workers’ Compensation

¨

Unpaid Sick or Vacation Leave Accruals (for most members)

   
Purchase Service Credit for:

Military Service

Refunded MainePERS Service
