MainePERS and Freedom of Information Request
MainePERS is an agency authorized by the State of Maine to administer public retirement plans, disability retirement programs, and group life insurance.

MainePERS is required to and complies with the State of Maine’s freedom of information law, known as the
Maine Freedom of Access law.

MainePERS must provide information upon request that is subject to the law, such as member name, salary and retirement benefit payments. We do not provide information that is excluded from the law such as personal address, other personal identifying information, or beneficiary information.

MainePERS receives requests throughout each year for information. If a request is specific to an individual, we notify that individual before releasing the information. If a request involves all members or a grouping of members, we are not able to notify each member individually.

In the past few months we have received requests for retirement information from retiree groups, the Maine Heritage Policy Center, Portland Press Herald and the Kennebec Journal.
